Weathered steel (Corten) artwork & light feature

The Scheldeplein Lantern is a striking artwork and light feature crafted from weathered steel (Corten) that serves as a central focal point in the redeveloped city square of Alblasserdam. Commissioned by the local municipality, the project reflects a collaboration between AIP and local designers Lucas & Blokland, resulting in a unique structure that blends art with functionality.

This installation not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the square but also plays an essential role in illuminating the space, fostering a sense of community and interaction. The weathered steel material adds character to the design, harmonizing with the surrounding environment while ensuring durability.

The lantern's thoughtful design and construction underscore the importance of integrating art within urban spaces, making it a beloved symbol of Alblasserdam's vibrant community life.
