Corten steel folly structure
AIP is excited to showcase the innovative Corten steel folly at the picturesque estate of Huis Doorn in Doorn, Netherlands. This captivating structure offers a modern geometric reinterpretation of the historic ‘kalverenhok’—a traditional shed once used for young cattle.
Designed by the esteemed architectural firm Gijs van Vaerenbergh, the folly stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of contemporary design with historical context. AIP not only provided the engineering service but also the fabrication, employing cutting-edge techniques in Corten steel manipulation to ensure both structural integrity and visual appeal. The choice of Corten steel enhances the building’s aesthetic, allowing it to evolve naturally with its environment as it develops a rich patina over time.
Commissioned by RVB, this project shows AIP's dedication to realise innovative and inspiring visions that respect and honor the legacy of historically significant sites. The folly serves as a cultural focal point within Huis Doorn, inviting visitors to explore the intersection of history and modernity, while offering a serene space for reflection amidst the estate's lush landscapes.
